Bio

Young drummer from Rome. Born in 1993, Lorenzo Mastrogregori is deeply rooted in jazz tradition as much he’s a rock music lover. He wants his music to be as deep as rock but preserving the freedom and complexity of jazz. He believes in tradition and wants to dig back to the origins and reasons of the music he loves.

He studied music since he was very young, singing in a choir, then he started playing and studying drums with the teacher Mario Paliano. During the early secondary school he also studied classical guitar and won an award in a young soloist competition. At the age of 14 he was taught by the drummer Enrico Rossetti, focusing on pop-rock music at ‘Scuderie Capitani’, a rock-drum academy headed by Luca Capitani, a famous italian drummer/producer/sideman. At the age of 17, he was inspired by Ellade Bandini to play jazz at a summer camp near Rome. After high school he decided to carry on studying music to become a professional musician. In 2015 he graduated in Jazz Drums at Frosinone (IT) Conservatoire. In the same year he moved to Den Haag (NL) to study at Koninkijk Conservatorium where he graduated in 2019 and he’s currently gaining a Master degree.

Among others Lorenzo studied with: Gregory Hutchinson (Joshua Redman, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Rosenwinkel), Eric Ineke (Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Rein de Graaf), Ettore Fioravanti (Paolo Fresu), Cristiano Micalizzi (Max Gazzé), Stefan Kruger (New Cool Collective, Caro Emerald, Zuco 103).
