Southern Rebellion 4tet is the jazz playground of Lorenzo Mastrogregori. Born as a tribute ensemble to Cedar Walton’s famous Eastern Rebellion recordings, the 4tet soon evolved in something more complex.
The band started performing original compositions, mainly composed by the leader, influenced by the deep jazz of Cedar’s ER band, the blues and rock influences of Joshua Redman and the bright sound of Keith Jarrett European Quartet.
The band performed in the Netherlands taking active part in the local jazz scene. Among others they performed at Delf Jazz festival, Jazz in de Gracht, Jazz in de Regentes.
The band original core are Jose Cervera (Valencia SP) on alto sax, Enrico Le Noci (Taranto IT) on guitar, Jackson Seung Lee (Seoul SK) on double bass and Lorenzo on drums.
Funny enough but Lorenzo is the Northernmost of all the members.
After Jackson moved back to South Korea the bass chair was taken by the Italian Alessio Calore.
